Saina Nehwal has reached a career-high number five in badminton rankings recently. According to the latest rankings, Nehwal is the highest-ranked non-Chinese player in the world at present.

Last week Nehwal was at seventh spot. Her amazing performance in the prestigious All England Super Series Championships made her first Indian woman to reach the semifinals of the tournament. Even in the semi finals, she put up a good show but went down fighting to Netherlands’ Tine Rasmussen.

Though she lost in the semi finals, her fantastic show earned her some good points taking her tally to 58516.7646 points and eventually breaking into top five rankings. Saina Nehwal’s previous best was the sixth spot, which she attained last year.

Chinese shuttlers dominate the top ten women’s rankings with Yihan Wang leading the pack. The other players from China in the top ten are Wang Lin (rank-2), Xin Wang (rank-3) Jiang Yanjiao (rank–4), Lu lan (rank-7) and Shixian Wang (rank-9).
