GHMC’s Fire Prevention Wing (FPW) has recently observed lack of safety measures that may lead to fire accidents in malls and hospitals. But the status of the safety measures in the educational institutions is not yet known. Due to lack of response from the educational department the FPW is unable to check the school buildings of less than five floors or 15 m height which are in the twin cities.

Majority of the schools in the Ranga Reddy district are lacking in tackling equipment for the fire accidents. The survey has been done for 200 schools out of 1,231 schools. From that 200 schools only six had more than two stair cases, 80 have fire extinguishers, 23 had space to operate fire engine on four sides.

GHMC officials advised the school managements or the building owners concerned to take up rectification measures within 60 days from receipt of notices from the DEO. They also said that schools will face penalty if they fail to do so.
