The State government had announced that the English subject will be introduced from class 1 in government schools, from this academic year 2011-2012, for the benefit of economically and socially backward populations. It had started action in this direction by planning to publish the text books based on the books bought from Kerala and Maharashtra. The syllabus will be designed with alphabets and few words. The government had also taken measures to train primary teachers by giving them some books which will assist them in methods of teaching students.
Primary Education Minister S. Sailajanath said that thousands of children were leaving government schools due to the absence of English medium. Though English medium has been introduced from 5th class, he says dropout can be contained at the lower level if English is introduced from first class.
