APSRTC is going to introduce 34 to 40 seated 100 mini buses in some of the remote areas and majorly in old city areas where the commuting of regular buses is difficult due to narrow roads. These buses are supposed to be introduced by this month end. These buses will have fares similar to the ordinary buses. The APSRTC has stopped the services of these mini buses earlier due to low earnings per bus. Therefore, the officials have asked the State Government to eliminate the road tax on these mini buses so that they will help in generating revenues for the department. They have further stated that on the success of these buses, they will in future use them for connecting metro rail stations with residential colonies.
Apart from the mini buses, the RTC officials are planning to introduce CNG buses on the city roads. They said that they have already 40 buses and are planning to bring to 350 more buses. These buses will operate from Hakimpet, Cantonment and Medchal depots.
