25 Jun 11: RTC officials have said that the city is short of 650 bus shelters. There are about 1,183 bus shelters existing for about 1 lakh commuters in the city. Of these total bus shelters, 76 are hardly used by commuters.
Officials have also received complaints regarding irregular placements of bus shelters at the crowded places. In the places like Maithrivanam, Jubilee Hills and SR Nagar, the bus shelters are located near the traffic signals, which are blocking passage of other vehicles.
Therefore, the traffic police have conducted survey with APSRTC officials and have identified locations for accommodating another new 650 bus shelters at the locations where the passengers need them. Even the unused bus shelters will be shifted to the locations where the commuters need them.
