20 Jul 11: The Civil Supplies Department has announced that Aadhar card is not necessary to get LPG as of now. As only 30 lakhs of people out of 40 lakh population in the nine circles of the city have enrolled for the cards, the department has decided to held up this decision till the total enrollment is done in the city. Within the city, the card has been generated to 14.68 lakh people, while for 11.35 lakh people it is delivered.
In the first phase, it is targeted to cover 3.10 crore individuals present in the seven districts – Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Adilabad, Anantapur, Chittoor, Srikakulam and East Godavari. Of these, only 1.70 crore have enrolled for the card and the unique number is generated for 53.70 lakh people. Of them only 26.10 lakh persons have actually received the card till date.
In the second phase, which starts from August, the department will take up enrollment in remaining 16 districts. For this the civil supplies department will open 500 centers and the remaining centers will be set up by banks. On the whole 3000 enrollment centers will be set up through out the state to complete the whole process.
The government is planning to complete the whole enrollment process by next year March 31st. At present, our state is leading in terms of enrollment for Aadhar cards with 68 percent, followed by Maharashtra (25%) and Karnataka (15%).
