31 Jul 11: The power distribution companies (Discoms) in Andhra Pradesh have sent a proposal to the AP State Electricity Regulatory Commission (APSERC) asking permission to levy fuel surcharge adjustment (FSA) of 60 paise per unit on all the consumers including domestic. This proposal has been put forward by the Discoms to raise Rs.540 crore in the first three months of the fiscal year. This is because the state government has before borne the FSA on domestic consumers by offering subsidy to the Discoms, but the Discoms are not sure whether the government will be able to bear these charges even this year due to financial crunch. The Discoms have also stated that the cost of coal and gas has also increased in the last few months and hence the FSA has to be hiked.
