5 Aug 11: GHMC has issued new guidelines for establishing parking lots in commercial establishments. It has exempted commercial eateries such as curry points, sweet shops, Irani hotels, mess’, bakeries and tiffin centers which have less than 1,000 sq.ft of area from the provision of parking space.

But, for the eating establishments having land area above 1,000 sq.ft (including kitchen) are provided with specific guidelines for provision of parking space and the extent of compliance of these eateries with the guidelines is connected to their trade licenses.

The trades which are established before 1998 should at least have 15 percent of their built-up areas for parking. In case of having 10-15 percent parking area, conditional licenses will be issued along with an undertaking stating that they will provide stipulated parking before 31st December, failing which the trade license will be canceled. In case of establishments having less than 10 percent parking area, the trade license will not be renewed.

For the trades established between 1998 and 2006 should have 25 percent of built up area as parking space and for the trades established after 2006 should have 40 percent of built up area as parking lot.

The GHMC has already instructed concerned authorities to complete inspections by August 6 as the last date of renewal of trade license without penalty is extended up to August 30 and will not be extended further.
