The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said that among the various cities in South India, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad are the main zones where sale and usage of narcotics is high. NCB has also said that it is increasing its staff to effectively control the drug peddling in Hyderabad, and will also assist with the Hyderabad police to tackle the drug menace.
NCB in its guidelines to the city police to control the drug menace stated that the police should not stop with booking cases on the drug peddlers. They can even confiscate the properties of the accused as per the NDPS Act, and they have to make use of this provision while unfolding the drug rackets.
The drug rackets busted till date and the interrogations conducted till now have revealed that the selling of drugs is easier, less risk prone and highly profitable in the southern part of India, rather than in Northern India. Hence, the city commissioner said that the Hyderabad police are working to trace the routes through which drugs were being smuggled. And as most of the drug rackets involved high number of foreigners, surveillance will be more on the foreigners frequently traveling abroad.
