Schools in Hyderabad have consistently performed poorly albeit there is improvement from 66% in 2008 to 76.94% in 2012, a whopping 13,328 out of 60,000 students failed.
Considering government and private body managed schools, the former have improved in performance from 56% to 83% over the past five years, whereas the latter have done so by a mere 5% over the same period.
In view of such poor performance, 1,000 schools in the city and in its outskirts have been put under the scanner by school education department for “providing the lowest quality of education academic ambiance.” As per sources, quality of education imparted at some schools is very poor; there are some private schools functioning without the needed and adequate infrastructure, and yet have been recognized by government.
