The Shamshabad International Airport is now to house more number of retail shops of top brands from within and outside the city. According to officials, the GMR Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) is now planning to expand its already sprawling retail zone by another 150%. Moreover, an additional 5,000 sq. feet has been earmarked for multi-cuisine restaurants and fast food centres.
Over past few months there are many new entrants in the airport’s retail zone like city-based Karachi Bakery, WH Smith Bookshop, boutique jewellery group Krishna Pearls and Jewellers, eatery chain Taste of India, handicrafts store ‘Anuva’ and Hyderabadi Bangles. Also in the transit are luxury brands such as Mont Blanc, Swarovski and food chains like KFC and Barista.
In addition to new entrants, already existing retailers were found expanding their business in the past months. Shoppers Stop and Crossword have expanded outlets twice the present size.
According to sources, the motive behind GMR RGIA is not only to encourage retail sector and improve their revenues, but also to enhance passenger facilities in the airport.
