Jeevandan, a scheme to stremline organ donation process in government hospitals was launched in NIMS. It is a comprehensive program, that includes all aspects of organ donation program, including declaration of brain death, infrastructure improvement, maintaining a website with real-time information on recipients, donors and organizing public awareness programs.
The scheme is expected to fulfil the growing demand for transplant of organs. There are a large number of people who are seeking kidney, liver and certain organ transplants. Further, the number of these people is uncertain because of absence of data. Also, such people do not know where to register as registration is mandatory for organ transplants.
The scheme is the first unit of organ transplant in the State.
