The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), is encouraging people to use clay Ganesha idols during Ganesh Chaturthi, and with the help of NGOs CARE, Sukuki Exonora, Chatri and APSA, it will distribute the small clay idols for Rs 10 through 25 to 30 distribution centres across the city.
The clay Ganesh idols will be distributed two days before Ganesh Chaturthi. HMDA has made arrangements to distribute over 25,000 clay Ganesha idols to people as part of its ‘Paryavarana Ganapathi’ campaign in the city.
The main purpose of this campaign is to educate people on environmental issues and how to protect Hussain sagar as it is getting polluted with the Ganesha idols made of chemical colours and plaster of paris.
The HMDA will provide idols free of cost to areas where there is lake protection and also big idols of five feet size will be supplied to schools, colleges, community groups and residential welfare associations.
