Products with ingredients tobacco and nicotine have been banned by state government, as per Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The relevant government orders ban making, storage, sale, transporting and exhibiting and distribution of gutka and related things. Andhra Pradesh becomes the 17th state in the country to ban products containing tobacco.
Government agencies including departments of Vigilance and Enforcement, commercial taxes, health, medical and family welfare, municipal, pacnhayat raj administration and labour have been directed to enforce the prohibition effectively.
The information and public relations and consumer affairs wings have been asked publicise the ban and spread awareness of the evil-effects of these products.
Check-posts will have enforcement personnel to prevent illicit transportation of the articles banned.
