Recently, at the National Tourism Awards held at New Delhi, the GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) got the award for Best Civic Management of Tourist Destination.
The GHMC had submitted an application for National Tourism Awards 2011-2012 in civic management of a tourist destination in India category. Along with the application the GHMC submitted data on overall cleanliness of the tourist destination, that includes cleaning public places and roads, integrated garbage collection and disposal mechanism, public-private partnership and community involvement.
Based on the data, the tourism department awarded GHMC under the category of civic management of a tourist destination in India for best citizen services.
Other awards that were bagged by Andhra Pradesh were: The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and the Visakhapatnam Airport got the Best Airport Award, award for the Best Convention Centre category has gone to the International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad received the Best Medical Facilities Award, Warangal bagged the Best Heritage City Award and Andhra Pradesh received Comprehensive Development of Tourism Award.
