Union government has declared that, the time limit for Aadhar applications (15 May 2013) for subsidised LPG cylinders, is not going to be extended.
LPG consumers not having Aadhaar number have to bear the full cost of cylinder. This is because oil companies will credit the subsidy amount only in the bank accounts of those who have the number. All others have to bear the unsubsidised cost in full.
The oil companies have made a condition that if consumers submit the Aadhaar number to their gas agencies within six months, they credit the subsidies in arrears.
It has been found that 45% of consumers have been covered so far. 25 to 30% of connections are either in bogus names or are not eligible for subsidy.
Union government is going to include pension in the Direct Benefit Scheme (cash transfer to the beneficiaries’ accounts) from 1 July 2013. The proposal will begin on a pilot basis. The districts to get the benefit are Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Anantapur, East Godavari and Chittoor.
Eight more districts are going to be added. These include Adilabad, Guntur, Kadapa, Krishna, Kurnool, Nalgonda, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram.
