Poor Sewerage System in Hyderabad City

The sewerage system in core Hyderabad city remains untreated and is disposed of in water bodies and drains, as there is irregular supply of water and inadequacy of sewerage network. The sewerage system in not sufficient to cater present population.

The sewerage system that was designed to serve a population of 4.68 lakhs and an area about 54 sq.km is now serving with current population of 78 lakh in an area of 625 sq.km.

According to the Managing Director, HMWSSB, planning is being done for supplying more water that will cost Rs 3,195 cr and for creating sewerage network it will cost Rs 1,920 cr. Minimum Rs 5,000 cr will be required for executing this plan.
