10 May 2011: GHMC is planning to set up mobile toilets in the different parts of the city. The toilets are designed to accommodate 4 to 10 people at a time. They will have automatic payment collection system and automated doors which will open only on payment of the fees. They are also equipped with self-cleaning machines to keep them hygienic. Display boards in four languages (Telugu, Hindi, English and Urdu) will be kept which inform users of the guidelines. These toilets run using solar energy or bio gas, along with traditional back-up power.

GHMC has called expression of interests to purchase and maintain these toilets from NGO’s, corporate offices, Registered Safai Karamchari Societies and Agencies. The GHMC used to hire these toilets during mass demonstrations and festivals like Ganesh idol immersion, Moharram and Haj piligimage, which used to cost Rs. 4 to 5 lakhs.
