10 Oct 11: The state government has issued a GO stating that only TTC (D.Ed.) qualifiers are eligible for SGT (Secondary Grade Teachers) posts in government schools. This GO applies for the admissions conducted through DIETCET-2011. Earlier, even the B.Ed. students were also eligible for SGT posts, but now they are restricted to school assistant posts.

Few months back, the government has made the announcement that70 percent of the SGT posts in the 2008 DSC selections will be reserved for TTC candidates, but now it has issued the above GO and from now only TTC candidates will be eligible for all the SGT posts for the DSC selections.

The students qualified for TTC (Teacher Training Course) through DIETCET in this year were about 1.90 lakh, whereas, the seats available in both government and private colleges are only 12,000 (convenor and management quota seats put together). Hence, the government has called only for first 50,000 eligible rankers for the counseling.

The fees for the two year TTC for convenor quota seats in government and private colleges is Rs.2,384 and Rs.12,500. Every college has 50 seats, among which 10 seats are for management quota. With this GO, the demand for management quota has increased and now the DIETCET qualifiers have to pay a huge amount of Rs.2 lakh for the two year TTC to acquire seat in the management quota.

And the government’s recent announcement that it will recruit 50,000 teachers in the next few months further raised the prices of management seats.
