The GHMC has planned to build more than 6,000 rain harvesting structures in five zones having 1,500 structures. The cost of the work is estimated at Rs. 6 crore.

It has been proposed to encourage educational institutions having large expanse of land for promoting such structures. Also, there are several roads in the city where there are points where stagnating water is a problem throughout the year. The points could be put to use to build water harvesting units.

It is also reportedly proposed to build bio-compost sheds in residential colonies and gated communities to give a fillip to the two bin system and bio-compost process.

For this, tricycle rickshaw-pullers collecting domestic trash would be trained in setting apart wet and dry waster in the shed itself.
