The Intermediate Board of Education has recommended new timings for Intermediate classes in Government junior colleges from the new academic year.

According to the orders issued by the Commissioner of Intermediate Board, college timing will be between 9 am and 5 pm every day. Earlier, colleges used to run between 9.45 am and 4.30 pm. And now the time limit is extended by one hour and 15 minutes.

The first half an hour, i.e., from 9 am to 9.30 am will be dedicated to Mana TV educational programmes that air video lectures on various subjects taught in the Intermediate Education. The next 15 minutes will be for prayer and the actual session will start from 9.45 am and run till 1.05 pm. After a 45 minutes lunch break the second session of classes will resume at 1.45 pm and continue till 4 pm. The last hour from 4 pm to 5 pm will be dedicated to the sports and games and for special classes to students who are weak in academics. This hour can also be used to conduct meetings for principals and lecturers to discuss the progress of students and their performance.

Though the Government Junior Lecturers’ Association (GJLA) is strongly opposing the changes stating that the new timings will drain up the students, especially those who are traveling from long distances, the Intermediate Board is so rigid on their decision and strictly mentioned that there will be no deviation in the orders. According to them, the new timings are devised to encourage sports as a part of the curriculum and to help the academically weak students by conducting special classes.
