Despite repeated notices to regularise college buildings and lands, from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), as many as 80 engineering colleges and some other professional colleges, in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region will lose their recognition and affiliation.

Earlier the HMDA, had issued notices to nearly 260 engineering, MBA, MCA and some professional colleges to first pay the penalties, before they regularise their college buildings and change land use norms.

Around 160 colleges have actively regularised their college buildings and lands and submitted their respective applications, to the HMDA. But, nearly 80 colleges have not yet regularised, and so the HMDA has sent letter to the All-India Council for Technical Education, saying that these colleges should be derecognised.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, has also received letters from the HMDA to cancel the affiliation of these institutions, because they are unauthorised and are violating the building rules and land use norms.

The commissioner of HMDA has stated that, the department authorities have sent letter to the social welfare department to put a stop to the concessions and benefits that these institutions receive.
