The Union Railway Minister had allocated huge funds for the completion of projects taken up by SCR in the state. The funds allocated are double the previous years allocations. The major share of funds, i.e Rs. 641 crores was allocated for the completion of MMTS phase II in the state. This Phase II consists of six projects: Falaknuma – Umdanagar – Shamshabad airport, Secunderabad – Ghatkesar, Tellapur – Patancheru, Secunderabad – Bollarum – Medchal, Malkajgiri – Sitafalmandi, and Moulali – Sanathnagar.
Overall the state gets 28 new trains including 9 express trains. The center had also allotted four track doublings from Gudivada – Machilipatnam, Vijayawada-Gudivada-Bhimavaram-Narsapur, Guntur – Tenali, Parbhani – Mudhked and Simhachalam – Gopalapatnam. It has also alloted three new lines from Gudur – Durgarajapatnam (45Km), Nadekudi – Srikalahasti (309 Km) and Madellacheruvu – Janpahad (24 Km).
Apart from the above allocations, the center had given RS.88 crore for improving passenger safety measures which includes closure of unmanned level crossings. The SCR officials have said that, they are planning to test an anti collision device in Renigunta – Hospet route, as a part of passenger safety.
