01 April 2011: The Andhra Pradesh Education Act, 1982 is set to get amended, enabling the state government to have control over academics which are related to central bodies like UGC and AICTE. The ordinance for this will be passed in the month of April. For this amendment the views of retired Supreme Court judges are being taken into consideration.
Apart from that, amendments in the State Universities Act are also being considered, mainly focusing on the accountability and responsibility of vice-chancellors and Executive councils. It is also found to concentrate on the strengthening the complaint mechanism against the vice chancellors in regard to the irregularities in the admissions and issue of certificates of M.Phil, Ph.D and distance education programs.
