20 April 2011: The AP Pharmacy Council has recently reported that, of the 50,000 pharmacy stores in the state, nearly 90% are fake. Several owners of the pharmacy stores are found to be borrowing the certificates of unemployed pharmacy graduates and paying them Rs.3000 to 5000 per month. This is against the Pharmacy Act, 1948, as it states that the dispensing of the medicines should be done only by qualified pharmacists. Even some of the well-known pharmacy groups are found to be involved in this illegal act. Therefore, the APPC has decided to catch hold of these pharmacies and pull them out of the business from July.
