State Stands Fifth in Terms of Population: 2011 Census

04 April 2011: The state stands fifth in terms of population with a total of 8,46,65,533, which consists of 4.25 crore males and 4.21 crore females. It was preceded by Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal. The decadal growth dropped from 14.59% in 2001 to 11.10 in 2011. The total population in the age group of 0-6 was 86,42,686, in which boys were 44,48,330 and girls for 41,94,356. The total population of literates was 5,14,38,510, among which 2,87,59,782 were men and 2,26,78,728 were women.

Among the districts in A.P, the decadal growth was high in Rangareddy (48.15), followed by Mahaboobnagar (15.03), Kurnool (14.65), West Godavari (3.45), Vizianagaram (4.5) and Hyderabad (4.71).

The population density of the state is 308 persons per sq.km, which was 277 in 2001 census. Among the districts, Hyderabad topped with 18,480 persons per sq.km. The population density in other districts is Rangareddy (707), Krishna district (519), Adilabad (170), khammam (175) and Kadapa (188).
