20 Aug 11: Now the applicants of passport are not required to stand in long queues to submit their application form as the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in the city is taking off the token system, allowing the applicants to directly submit their applications at the respective counters by showing valid bonafide proofs.

The applicants can submit their applications between 9.15 am to 12 noon. An emergency counter too is set up which issues passports based on urgency of the applicants only when they produce proof of urgency such as TOEFL examination hall-ticket, medical treatment, employment letter and Haj pilgrimage. A new VIP counter has also been set up to cater to deal with applications recommended by MP’s and MLA’s. Out of seven new Passport Seva Kendras coming up in the entire state, 3 will be set up in the city by the October end.

Under normal service passports will be issued within 30 days and under Tatkal scheme they will be issued within 7 days. As the number of cases of producing fake certificates is increasing the RPO will conduct online verification of documents. The voter ID card will be verified from the websites of Election commission (EC) and GHMC, and other documents such as driving license and ration cards will be verified from the websites of RTA and Civil supplies respectively.

The deputy passport officer will attend to grievances of applicants and clear the pending applications from noon to 1 pm every day.
