The Nehru Zoological Park in the city will celebrate its 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee), the ‘Zootsav’, from October 6 to 14. During these days children below 12 years will be given free entry.

To celebrate the Golden Jubilee the zoo authorities have planned various programmes for the zoo visitors. There will be competitions for children like debate competitions, quiz for school and college students, photography and many more. The Governor will give away prizes to the winners of the competitions on October 14.

Since its time of inception in the year 1963, the zoo has seen many changes and added many new species and facilities for animals. There were major establishments like the Nocturnal Animal House in 1982, Lion Safari Park in 1974, Open Butterfly Park in 1998, and the Pre-historic Animal Park in the history of the zoo.
