For the first time, Election Commission of India is going to issue plastic (PVC) electoral photo ID cards to voters in the state.

The new voter ID card looks like a driving license card. To prevent forgery, tampering and duplication, it has security features including voter’s coloured photograph and hologram with coded voter details.

The new cards will be ready in next three weeks and will be distributed from March 1st. Within the next few days, e-Seva and Mee Seva equipped with colour printers will be available for issuing the voter ID cards.

The Election Commission is going to charge Rs. 25 to convert the existing black and white voter ID card to new plastic card. But switching to the new voter ID card is not compulsory.
