In the month of September, Hyderabad witnessed stable situation on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad was peaceful, while the situation in Seemandhra region was turbulent.
Hyderabad celebrated the 10 day long Ganesh Chaturthi festival with great pomp, gusto and devotion. It was a wonderful sight to see huge Ganesh idols on the immersion day. Many people had turned up to see the immersion.
The ‘Hyderabad Liberation Day’ was observed on September 17. Then, on September 7th the APNGOs held a meeting at the Lal Bahadur Stadium due to which there was bandh in the city.

General
- Nearly 50,000 Ganesh idols of various sizes were immersed in the Hussain Sagar lake. This year there were many takers of small clay Ganesh idols. On the immersion day, it rained heavily, due to which some processions continued till the next day evening.
- The government merged 15 gram panchayats with GHMC. The panchayats merged are Gandipet, Manchirrevula, Kokapet, Jawaharnagar, Shamshabad, Pragathinagar, Bachupally, Kompally, Dulapally, Boduppal, Medipally, Chengicherla, Nagaram, Dammaiguda and Gundla Pochampally.
- An urban vegetable market complex to be constructed in Machabollarum that comes under Alwal circle of GHMC. The project is likely to cost around Rs 4.75 crore. The complex will consist of a cellar, ground plus two floors and terrace spread over three blocks.
- To clear rush of passengers during the Dasara and Deepavali festivals, there will be three weekly special trains from Santragachi (Howrah) to Kochuveli (Thiruvanantapuram) and from Kamakhya (Guwahati) to Chennai Central and Yesvantpur (Bengaluru).
- After GHMC merging 35 villages, the area of the GHMC has increased to 922 sq. km from 625.52 sq.km. After the merger, the population of Greater Hyderabad has increased from 67.31 lakh to 71.70 lakh (2011 census)
Education
- In phase I of engineering admissions, 1,08,098 seats were left vacant and 1,26,390 seats were filled. The allotted seats are displayed on the website: htpps://apeamcet.nic.in. Over all 2,18,893 students qualified in the exam for engineering and pharmacy courses.
- The last date for submission of applications for the scholarships under CSSS (Central Sector Scheme of Scholarships for College and University Students) was extended from September 15 to September 30. Students who passed this year in March are eligible to apply.
- At the end of the final phase of Eamcet engineering counseling, 32 engineering colleges had zero admissions. The number of vacant seats has increased from 1.08 lakh to 1.10 lakh, of a total 2.34 lakh seats. Of the 1,10,450 vacant seats, 1,02,105 are for engineering and 8,345 for pharmacy that didn’t have any takers.
