In view of less number of students, the government has decided to remove 462 sections in 820 colleges from academic session 2012-13. In Hyderabad district, 10 such sections are to face closure. The numbers for other districts are as follows:

The district-wise list prepared by authorities shows that many colleges do not have enough number of students to meet the strength. Normally, there are four sections including two in science (MPC and BiPC) and two in humanities (CEC and HEC). Each science and humanities section respectively has 40 and 30 seats of which a bulk remains vacant.

The authorities have decided to rationalise lecturers and those in these colleges would be placed in colleges where there is shortage lecturers.

The move is said to affect the intermediate education in colleges and the recruitment of junior lecturers. Further, it would affect studies of students from poor sections who would drop out as such students primarily depend on government colleges for the pursuit of studies.
