We have all heard this about many times that exposure to radiation from mobile towers can cause health hazards. Therefore, to keep a close check on the prescribed radiation limit the citizens will soon be authorised to check whether the radiation emission levels coming from cell towers in their locality are within tolerable limits.
The state government has instructed local bodies not to give permission for installing towers on the premises of hospitals and schools. The government is planning to fix a one-time fee from cable operators that would range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
If the citizens suspect that the towers were not following the norms enforced by Department of Telecom (DoT) and if excess radiation is discovered which is unsafe, then they can lodge a complaint.
