The state electricity board was facing a shortage of 2 million units of power in the peak summer months of 2010, which led to three to four hour long power cuts. According to the officials, in the winter months, when the demand for power is supposed to be low, the demand is 80% i.e., the transmission network is in “Full- load”. The CPDCL officials say that the state is not facing any demand-supply gap as of now, but to be prepared for the months of March and April of 2011 Summer, the CPDCL had tied up with the suppliers for procuring 1000 MW of power, to face the peak demand shortage of 400-500MW.
