Chandraynagutta’s legislator and All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Akbaruddin Owaisi was attacked by 15 assailants in Hyderabad in his own constituency while he was traveling in jeep for a rally in Barkas. This incident took place on April 30. He was then accompanied by Ahmed Balala, the MIM legislator from Malakpet. He was shot with four rounds of bullets and was then attacked with swords and daggers. He was critically injured in the attack, along with Balala and both were admitted in the Owaisi hospital in Santhosh Nagar.
There were about 15 assailants who attacked the MLA and they were found to be the henchmen of Mohammad Pehlwan, who is the leader of rival party, Majlees Bachao Tehreek (MBT). On the counter attack made by the gunmen of the MLA, four of those assailants were dead. In wake of this attack, the police have deployed more police forces in the surrounding areas of old city.

The video footage showing the attack was released on 3rd May through main TV channels. The video shows the attackers stabbing and firing at Mr Owaisi, who fell down from a jeep. One of the accused, Ibrahim, tried to stab the MLA even after he fell down.
