New City Police Chief, A. K. Khan Moves to RTC

As per government orders, Mr. Anurag Sharama is the new commissioner of police of Hyderabad. Mr. Sharma was earlier the commissioner in-charge. Mr. A. K. Khan has been posted as Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, APSRTC. Mr. B. Prasada Rao has been appointed as ACB chief.

Mr Sharma reportedly said, “Maintaining law and order will be the top priority and there will be no lenience towards the communal situation. I will also try to improve crime detection. Providing friendly policing to ensure that the police wins the heart of Hyderabadis is another priority”.

Demand to Ban 33 Drugs in India

Medical body, All India Drug Control Officers Confederation (AIDCOC), has strongly recommended to the Union Health Ministry, to ban 33 drugs. The AIDCOC has alleged that the Central Drug Standards Control Organization (CDSCO) has given permission for the marketing of these drugs without carrying prior clinical trials in India.

Widespread Sale of Antibiotics without Prescription
To buy antibiotics in India is easy as it does not require a physician’s prescription. Despite restriction in the form of government regulations, the sale of antibiotics without any prescription is widespread.

Observation made by the Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC)
The PSC made the following observation on certain drugs sold in India. For drugs Everolimus (Novartis), Colistimethate (Cipla), Exemestane (Pharmacia), Buclizine (UCB), Pemetrexid (Eli Lilly), Aliskiren (Novartis), Pentosan (West Coast), Ambrisentan (GlaxoSmithKline), Ademetionine (Akums), Pirfenidone (Cipla), and FDC of Pregabalin, ethylcobolamine, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Pyridoxine & Folic Acid (Theon), no clinical trials were conducted.

For Dronedarone (Sanofi) and Aliskiran (Novartis) clinical trials were conducted on just 21 and 46 patients respectively as against the statutory requirement of at least 100 patients.

For Irsogladine (Macleods), trials were conducted at just two hospitals as against legal requirement of 3-4.

No mandatory phase III clinical trials are conducted and no expert advice is sought.

One More Expressway Ramp Ready

One more intermediate ramp offering connectivity to those who want reach the PVNR Elevated Expressway in between will be ready by the close of June.

The 11.8 km long expressway connects the city with the international airport Shamshabad. It has already been equipped with three connection up-ramps at Lakshminagar and Aramgarh and a down-ramp at Upparpally. Out of six ramps, three ramps were commissioned last year. Work on the up-ramp at Upparpally is heading for final phase.

Due to various reasons, work on the three sets of exit and entry ramps planned for PVNR Expressway has been getting delayed.

Debatable issues
As of now, two more connections to the expressway are yet to be resolved. The acquisition of land associated with Defence Ministry has not been settled at Lakshminagar. Consequently not only the ramp work has been affected but also the service road to be done by the GHMC.

Further, relocation of a place of worship here has led to delays in commencement of work.
For the down-ramp at Aramgarh, the delay in shifting of pipelines by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) affected the work.

Fish Medicine to Change Venue

Bathini Mrigasira Trust, the organization administering the popular fish medicine for asthma, is to shift its operations to Kattedan village instead of the Nampally exhibition grounds where the organization conducted the meet annually.

The medicine issued at no cost for chronic asthma patient is to be given on June 8 and 9 this year.
The venue for the distribution of medicine is S. No. 49, Kattedan Village, Rajendranagar Mandal, Ranga Reddy District.

The medicine is to be distributed from 7am on June 8.

Physics Re-Exam Marks Not to be taken into Account While Ranking under EAMCET

As per a clarification by government, the marks obtained in physics in re-examination for the candidates who failed will not figure in the EAMCET rank list.

Till 2011, candidates sitting for advance supplementary examinations were considered for the EAMCET rank list. This year, however, as per the GO issued in April, before the Inter results, these students would not be considered for EAMCET as the number such candidates is a few hundreds.

However, breaking the usual trend, 31% of total Inter student numbering 1.8 lakh failed in the physics paper this year. Massive protests pressed the government to advance the supplementary exam May 16. Out of 5.6 lakh students who appeared for the physics paper, 4.8 lakh are appearing for advance supplementary, including 1.8 lakh who failed.

Aadhaar Cards Issued Hurriedly to Meet Deadlines

Aadhaar cards have been issued hastily to meet the deadline of 100% enrollment. According to the police, Aadhaar cards issued in Old Hyderabad, full names of the card holders were not registered. Instead, most of the cards carried short names without any middle or surnames. Also, the cards had some vague addresses where the addressees did not reside.

After looking into the details, the probe agencies looking into the matter suspect of hasty action to complete the target. To substantiate the suspicion, it is said that the cards bearing such address have been returned to government.

Up till now, 5.35 crore Aadhaar cards have been issued of which 47 lakh cards have been issued in the city of Hyderabad under phase I of the programme. Phase II is yet to start.

Hurdles to Balkampet-Begumpet Road Cleared

At long last, path for the 60 feet long road Balkampet-Fathenagar to Begumpet has been cleared. 39 buildings standing as roadblocks have been demolished by the GHMC.

The property owners were paid structural compensation. They were allotted alternate accommodation at a newly built housing colony at Yellamma Banda.

The amount of compensation to each beneficiary has also been adjusted with the beneficiary’s contribution for the new housing units.

The yet to be built road would reduce the distance between the intended points by 2.5 km.

Zoo to Get Battery Cars

The Nehru Zoological Park is ready to launch 25 battery operated vehicles in the 360 acre premises.

The vehicles would reduce pollution and help the physically challenged visitors, senior citizens and general tourists take a complete round of the zoo. Now visitors can opt for a ride and can see the entire park in about two hours. The vehicles would halt for a few minutes at all the important spots in the zoo including the reptile house and others.

APCPDCL Asks Hyderabadis to take Precautionary Measures

The Central Power Distribution Company of AP (APCPDL) has advised the public to help them provide interrupted power supply in Hyderabad by following certain safety guidelines.

The power distribution company has advised

Not to walk under overhead power lines or touch electric poles or transformers when it rains or there is gale
To get internal wiring checked once in three years
Not to through garbage in the transformer fence, as it may cause short circuit
Not to entrust private individuals to climb electric poles as it is illegal
Not to touch snapped electric wires which may result in electrocution. In the event a person gets electrocuted, the person should not be touched with bare hands.
